Virtual Recording Projects
"Free to Be You and Me"
March 2021
For five weeks, Junior Kinderchoir students met virtually and worked with Miss Cindy on making a recording of “Free to Be You and Me” by Stephen Lawrence and Bruce Hart. The audio files were recorded individually by the singers and the images were provided by the children. Towards the end of the recording, you will hear some original lyrics written by the children as well!
"Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World"
July 2020 & January 2021
In two separate workshops, two different groups of Kinderchoir students met virtually with Miss Cindy to learn and master “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World,” a compilation arranged by Roger Emerson. Miss Cindy supported the children privately and in the class setting, and at the conclusion of the workshop, each child made a final video recording, which were then edited together by Dr. Ben.
"Lean on Me"
November 2020
For five weeks, Junior Kinderchoir students met virtually and worked on making a recording of “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers. The audio files were recorded individually by the singers and the images are snapshots from our rehearsals as well as entries from their “kindness journals.”
Alexandria Choral Society 50th Anniversary Concert
In March 2020, our Kinderchoir students (grades 3-6) were invited to sing on stage at the Alexandria Choral Society’s 50th Anniversary Concert. In addition to performing two pieces on their own, they joined the adult singers of the Choral Society for the world premiere of “Away We Go,” a call-and-response piece commissioned by both choirs from Alexandria composer Christopher Hoh, which pays homage to our city’s maritime history.
