Vision

Alexandria Kinderchoir Performing

Proud to be Alexandria’s only children’s community chorus, the Alexandria Children’s Chorus (founded in 2015 as a 501(c)3 non-profit and originally called The Del Ray Kinderchoir) provides an opportunity for children in Kindergarten through Grade 7 to experience the joy of singing in a non-competitive environment, develop and strengthen fundamental musicianship skills, and enrich the community around them. Children will sing from the rich offerings of American and international folk music, as well as from classical repertoire.

Mission

1. Celebrate COMMUNITY through the joy of music making

A community chorus offers a rare opportunity for children with different scholastic or religious affiliations to unite in the common purpose of making music and having fun. Friendships created through the chorus often hold fast throughout childhood. As an Ambassador for the Arts, the Alexandria Children’s Chorus also strives to share the joy of singing with the greater community of Alexandria, performing at community events and collaborating with our arts partners.

2. Foster every child’s NATURAL GIFT for singing

We believe every child can sing! Through professional weekly instruction in both musicianship and repertoire, children learn to use their voice as a beautiful and powerful instrument. They learn techniques in breathing and posture, how to match pitch, incorporate rhythm, identify intervals, develop melodic and rhythmic improvisation, sing harmonies, and read music. At concerts, choristers experience the personal pride that comes from group singing.

3. Inspire children to become GOOD HUMANS

We use music education to help children understand how to love one another, respect people and cultures different from their own, and honor the great diversity we share in our human family. Our choristers experience the pride which comes from developing important life skills like discipline, responsibility, teamwork, problem-solving, and work ethic.
